Huntsville's Gurtler deadly on offense in 7-0 win against Fayetteville

Crown Coliseum    Sat, Oct 26, 2013

The Huntsville Havoc relied on the scoring touch of Mike Gurtler, who netted two goals, to beat the Fayetteville FireAntz, 7-0.

Gurtler found the back of the net 6:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville and again while 14:14 into the first to make the score 2-0 Huntsville.

Huntsville forced Fayetteville's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 32 shots and forcing 25 saves. Dan Dunn made 17 stops and Kyle Rank made eight. The Havoc put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the FireAntz to score on any of their four power plays. Huntsville's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 15 shots on net during the game.

Huntsville also got points from Rob Florentino, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Stuart Stefan, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Dominic Osman, who also registered one goal and one assist, Justin Fox, who also grabbed one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Josh Harris, who also racked up one goal and two assists. More assists for Huntsville came via Matt Singleton, who had two and Leland Fidler, Sam Cannata, Justin Cseter, and Scott Harff, who contributed one a piece.

Fayetteville could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. The FireAntz relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Zach Carriveau, John Clewlow and Aaron McGill took 10 of the team's 18 shots.
