Louisiana survives Mississippi Surge comeback, wins 4-2Mississippi Coast Coliseum Fri, Oct 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Mississippi Surge almost clawed its way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Louisiana IceGators managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end. Louisiana led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the IceGators' Chris Wilson's scored at 11:52 in the second period to put Louisiana up 4-1. The IceGators got the win behind a great game by Jason Cohen, who had two goals and one assist. Cohen scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Louisiana had taken the advantage when Mississippi Surge's Mike Looby got sent off for illegal check to the head. Adam Stuart picked up the assist. Cohen's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Louisiana with 9:58 left in the second period. The IceGators earned a power play opportunity when Adam Feniak was put in the box for holding. Jeff Grant provided the assist. Louisiana excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The IceGators' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Jeremey Boyer also scored for Louisiana. More assists for Louisiana came via Jake Trask, who had two and Matthew Robertson, Peter Cintala, and Kirk Byczynski, who each chipped in one. Mississippi Surge forced Louisiana goalie Matt Zenzola to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Mississippi Surge was helped by Mitch Bruijsten, who racked up one goal. Bruijsten scored 13:34 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Louisiana. Matt Gordon assisted on the tally. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Kyle Kudroch as well. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Jarkko Leppanen, who had one. Zenzola recorded 35 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's Dan Clarke stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Mississippi Surge ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
