Peoria blows out Bloomington, 5-1Bloomington Fri, Oct 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Peoria Rivermen had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Bloomington Thunder. Peoria was sparked by Tyler Amburgey, who tallied one goal and one assist. Amburgey scored 17:56 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Parker Stanfield provided the assist. The Rivermen outdid their season average for goals scored. Peoria averages 2.9 goals per game. The Rivermen were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages. Peoria put 45 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.1 it averages per game. Peoria also got points from Taylor Larsen, who also registered one goal and one assist. Peoria also got a goal from Garrett Vermeersch as well. More assists for Peoria came via Joe Schiller, who had two and Nick Prockow, Steve Morra, and Ryan Raven, who contributed one a piece. The Bloomington penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 33.0 minutes per game the Thunder had been spending in the box. Bloomington was below its usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 28.4 the Thunder average. Bloomington could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Thunder put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Bloomington was led by Daniel Barczuk, who scored the team's only goal. Barczuk scored 7:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington. Kevin Walrod picked up the assist. Phil Cook made 18 saves for the Rivermen on 19 shots. Peoria incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Thunder's BJ OBrien stopped 40 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Bloomington registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Thunder ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Puntureri was ejected from the game.
