Penalties doom Mitchell against Walkerton in 7-3 loss

A rash of penalties cost the Mitchell Hawks the game, as the Walkerton Hawks netted four goals with a man advantage in a 7-3 win.

Walkerton was sparked by Carter Franks(AP), who had one goal. Franks(AP) scored 10:00 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Walkerton. David Gallo assisted on the tally.

The Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mitchell to score on any of its eight power plays.

Walkerton also got points from Chris Gillman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Calvin Penney, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Brandon Lamothe, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Austin Russell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Walkerton also had goals scored by Tyler Snyder and Brett Coulson, who each put in one. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Ryan Hamelin, who had one and Nathan Kramer and Lauchlin Elder, who contributed two a piece.

The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in Walkerton's zone, and came away with two goals.

Mitchell was helped by Jalen Aitcheson, who had one goal. Aitcheson scored short handed 2:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mitchell. The Hawks played down a man on Adam Zehr's cross checking. Others who scored for Mitchell included Greg Orr and Tyler Tolton, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mitchell came via Jerry Ennet, who had one.

Trevor Fleming recorded 26 saves for the Hawks. Walkerton incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Mitchell's starting goalie, Chris Wallace, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Chris Warren, who stopped eight shots. The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
