Wingham rolls over Hanover, 7-3

Behind a great game by Ryan McNeil, who had two goals and one assist, the Wingham Ironmen defeated the Hanover Barons, 7-3.

McNeil found the back of the net on the power play 14:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wingham and again while 19:43 into the second to make the score 4-1 Wingham.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:07 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Wingham forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Ironmen surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Wingham forced Hanover goalie Ben Errington to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Ironmen were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Wingham also got points from Blake Pickering, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Jamie Huber, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, and Travis Donaldson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Aaron Armstrong, who had two and Brett Brophy, Keaton Willis, Justin Jacklin, Mason Keating, and Carter Stewart, who each chipped in one.

The Barons were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Hanover had been spending in the box. The Barons kept Wingham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jaden Shrier made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Hanover was helped by Justin Graham, who racked up one goal. Graham scored short handed 12:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wingham. The Barons played down a man on Ryne Weppler's delay of game. Hanover also had goals scored by Drew Quinlan and Tyson Soers, who each put in one. In addition, Hanover received assists from Garrett Weigel, who had two.

For the Ironmen, Jacklin and Keating were ejected from the contest. Errington rejected 24 shots on goal for Hanover. The Barons registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Andrew Scott and Josh Steffler were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
