Wingham vanquishes Hanover in shootout, 7-6 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wingham Ironmen defeated the Hanover Barons in a shootout 7-6 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

Wingham came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Ironmen was down 6-4 after a goal by Hanover's Brodie Lemay at 4:45 in the third period. Wingham knotted things up at 6-6 on a goal by Jamie Huber at 13:52 in the third period.

The Ironmen stifled the Barons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wingham kept Hanover's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Errington made 40 saves on 47 shots. The Ironmen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wingham additionally got points from Ryan Stulp, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Wingham also got a goal from Brody Tenpas as well. In addition, Wingham received assists from Brett Brophy, who had two, Aaron Armstrong, who had three, and Keaton Willis and Ryan McNeil, who each chipped in one.

The Barons forced Ironmen's goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Jaden Shrier made five stops and Nathan Watson made 23. Hanover surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Barons average 2.7 goals per game. Hanover's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Barons finished with 32 penalty minutes.

Hanover was helped by Justin Graham, who finished with three goals. Hanover also got points from Denver Hill, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Ryne Weppler, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Andrew Scott, who had two and Tyson Soers and Josh Steffler, who contributed one a piece.

Wingham registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. The Barons registered zero goals on eight power play opportunities. For Hanover, Chris Hardy was ejected from the game.
