Huge game by Huber boosts Wingham over Mount Forest, 12-6

The Wingham Ironmen's Jamie Huber had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing two assists in his team's 12-6 win over the Mount Forest Patriots.

Huber notched his first tally 14:10 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:44 into the first, at 11:07 into the second, and at 13:26 into the second.

The Wingham penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Ironmen had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Wingham forced Mount Forest's netminders to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots and forcing 28 saves. John Nixon made 17 stops and Cole Wardlaw made 11. The Ironmen outdid their season average for goals scored. Wingham has scored at the pace of 5.4 goals per game during the current campaign. The Ironmen were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Wingham additionally got points from Darren Kerr, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Aaron Armstrong, who also racked up one goal and five assists, and Ryan McNeil, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Blake Pickering also scored for Wingham. In addition, Wingham received assists from Matt McCracken, Carter Stewart, and Jeremy Ross, who contributed one a piece and Brett Brophy and Ryan Stulp, who each chipped in two.

The Patriots racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game Mount Forest had been spending in the box. The Patriots made Wingham's goaltenders to work all game long, getting 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. Jaden Shrier made 16 stops and Nathan Watson made 13. Mount Forest bested its season scoring average. This season, the Patriots average 3.7 goals per contest.

Mount Forest was helped by Trevor Hughson, who registered one goal and one assist. Hughson scored 9:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mount Forest. Mitch Betts provided the assist. Mount Forest also got points from Ben Davis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mount Forest also had goals scored by Doug Costanzo, who had two and Doug Ardis and Shawn Lantz, who each put in one. More assists for Mount Forest came via Justin Graham, Devin Williams, and Matt Taylor, who contributed one a piece.

For the Ironmen, Justin Jacklin was ejected from the game. The Patriots registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Matt Marshall, Cody Wright, and Dean Nixon were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
