Penetang beats Alliston 5-2 as Shaw gets hat trick

The Alliston Hornets could not stop the Penetang Kings' Ryan Shaw, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-2 win.

Shaw notched his first tally 4:28 into the third period. He then added goals at 5:46 into the third and at 11:08 into the third.

Penetang's penalty kill excelled, as the Kings gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

Penetang forced Hornets' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Connor Ryckman made 22 stops and Tyler Brindle made five.

Penetang additionally got points from Tyler Marchand, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Mac Flewelling, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Penetang received assists from Ryan Young, who had three and Austin Fischer and Mackenzie Bumstead, who contributed one a piece.

Alliston forced the Kings goalie Adam Redgate to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Hornets' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Alliston is averaging 2.3 goals against for the season.

The Hornets were helped by Matt Hamilton, who registered one goal. Hamilton scored 8:39 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Joe Cochrane picked up the assist. Alliston also got a goal from Dakota Brooks as well. More assists for Alliston came via Mike Barosso and Jacob Tuck, who each chipped in one.

Redgate rejected 30 shots on goal for Penetang. The Kings incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. For Penetang, Marchand was ejected from the game. Alliston incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. The Hornets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andrew Ceolin was ejected from the game.
