DeRose leads Stayner over Erin, 6-3

Erin Community Center    Sat, Jan 11, 2014

Corey DeRose had two goals and one assist to lead the Stayner Siskins to a 6-3 victory over the Erin Shamrocks.

DeRose's tallies came at 13:49 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Erin and 4:20 into the third to make the score 4-3 Stayner.

Stayner stifled Erin's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Siskins forced the Shamrocks goalie Tom Denstedt to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Others who scored for Stayner included Ricky Darrell, who had two and Kyle Lafreniere and Derick Robertson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Jesse Anderson and Dakota Hynes, who each chipped in one and Sean Healy and Brandon Watson, who contributed two a piece.

Erin's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Stayner power plays. Stayner was unable to stop the Shamrocks from sending pucks towards the net, and Erin eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

The Shamrocks were helped by Tyler Topham, who racked up one goal. Topham scored short handed 19:19 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Erin. A cross checking call on James Watsonbag put Erin on the penalty kill. Cosimo Morin assisted on the tally. Erin also had goals scored by Adam Gibson and Connor Mortimer, who each put in one. In addition, Erin received assists from Patrick Reay and Liam Adamson, who each chipped in one.

Aaron Taylor rejected 40 shots on goal for the Siskins. Stayner incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Denstedt recorded 35 saves for the Shamrocks. Erin incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
