Caledon sunk by penalties, falls to Erin 6-3

A rash of penalties cost the Caledon Golden Hawks the game, as the Erin Shamrocks netted four goals with a man advantage in a 6-3 win.

Erin was led by Josh Sguigna, who had one goal and one assist. Sguigna scored on the power play 3:29 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Erin. The Shamrocks earned a power play opportunity when Zack Worth was put in the box for high sticking. Mike Nicolucci picked up the assist.

Erin excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Shamrocks' offense rang up 42 shots on Caledon's net. Erin surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Shamrocks average 3.3 goals per game.

Erin additionally got points from Nicolucci, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Patrick Reay, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Erin also got a goal from Josh Tremblay as well. Other players who recorded assists for Erin were Tyler Nieuwendyk, who had three and Tyler Topham, Darcy Hackett, and Connor Mortimer, who each chipped in one.

The Golden Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Caledon was helped by Steven Klomp, who registered one goal. Klomp scored 17:18 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Caledon. Patrick Savella provided the assist. Caledon also got points from Savella, who also had one goal and one assist. Nicholas McNutt also scored for Caledon.

Mark Terry made 27 saves for Erin on 30 shots. The Shamrocks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Golden Hawks' Chris Vellucci stopped 36 shots out of the 42 that he faced.
