Alliston survives Fergus comeback, wins 4-3

The Fergus Devils tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Alliston Hornets would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Alex Daley put Alliston up 4-1 in the second period, but Fergus pulled to within one on Matt Clarke's tally 10:00 into the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 1:01 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Hornets forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and five majors for 59 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game Alliston had been spending in the box. The Hornets had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 11 chances.

Alliston was led by Nic Archibald, who finished with one goal and one assist. Archibald scored 6:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alliston. Jacob Tuck assisted on the tally. Alliston also got points from Jamie Bennett, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Dakota Brooks also scored for Alliston. More assists for Alliston came via William Bradon, Sean Anderson, Bobby Sloan, Ben Skuce, and Dalton Payne, who each chipped in one.

The Devils racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and six majors for 74 minutes in penalty time. Fergus surpassed its season average of 31.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Devils were helped by Mike Traves, who grabbed one goal. Traves scored on the power play 9:30 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Fergus had gained a power play chance when Sloan was whistled for cross checking. Clarke provided the assist. Fergus additionally got points from Clarke, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fergus also got a goal from James Murray as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were Ben Roelofson, who had two and Patrick Snell and Alex Elliott, who contributed one a piece.

Team's David Leblanc, Tanner Dockerty, Andrew Ceolin, Daley, and Matt Hamilton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Devils registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For Fergus, Joshua Schafer, Tristan Bran, Traves, Dominic Weathall, and Mackenzie Cleveland were ejected from the contest.
