Taylor leads Stayner to shutout victory over Orillia

Aaron Taylor recorded a shutout against the Orillia Terriers as the Stayner Siskins picked up a 6-0 win.

Stayner was sparked by Corey DeRose, who grabbed one goal and one assist. DeRose scored on the power play 9:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stayner. A tripping penalty on Ryan Tucci had put the Siskins on the power play. Ricky Darrell assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:00 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Stayner was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Siskins average 3.0 goals allowed per game. Stayner forced Orillia goalie Gordie Weiss to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Siskins took advantage of the Terriers' penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities.

Stayner additionally got points from Brandon Watson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Stayner included Cooper Martin, Kyle Lafreniere, Ryan Hudson, and Ryan Perencz, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stayner came via Sean Healy, who had two and Quinton Bruce, Zachery Hannon, and Jason Seeley, who each chipped in one.

Orillia was held below its usual level of production. The Terriers average 3.3 goals per game. Orillia's offense rang up 31 shots on Stayner's net.

The Siskins' Taylor stopped 31 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Stayner ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Siskins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Seeley was ejected from the game. Gordie Weiss made 32 saves for the Terriers on 38 shots. Orillia totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For the Terriers, Kohl Connor was ejected from the game.
