Caledon rides Pitcher to victory over Stayner, 2-1

Eric Pitcher had a standout game with 34 saves, and the Caledon Golden Hawks beat the Stayner Siskins 2-1.

Caledon's penalty kill excelled, as the Golden Hawks gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Caledon was led by Steve Zeppieri, who racked up one goal. Zeppieri scored 6:41 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Caledon. Zack Worth picked up the assist.

The Golden Hawks stifled Stayner's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Caledon did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Golden Hawks average 4.2 goals per game. Caledon forced the Siskins goalie Aaron Taylor to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Golden Hawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 28 penalty minutes.

Cody Forgione also scored for Caledon. In addition, Caledon received assists from Daniel Cafagna, who had one.

Stayner's offense operated below it season average. The Siskins put an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. Stayner managed to hold Caledon's power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage. The Golden Hawks were unable to stop the Siskins from sending pucks towards the net, and Stayner eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Siskins struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 42 penalty minutes for 14 opposing power plays.

Stayner was led by Brandon Watson, who scored the team's only goal. Watson scored 5:32 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Sean Healy assisted on the tally.

For Caledon, Mark Smythe was ejected from the game. Aaron Taylor made 34 saves for the Siskins on 36 shots.
