Penetang uses shootout to best Caledon, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Penetang Kings defeated the Caledon Golden Hawks in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Caledon got a shootout goal from James Watsonbag. In addition to the clincher, Penetang got a shootout goal from Matt Fischer.

The Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Penetang gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Kings were held below their usual level of production. Penetang puts an average of 5.4 pucks into the net per game. The Golden Hawks were unable to stop the Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Penetang eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

The Kings were helped by Fischer, who tallied one goal. Fischer scored 7:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Penetang. Kyle Burns picked up the assist. Penetang also got a goal from Jordan Schwartz as well. In addition, Penetang received assists from Jack Scanlan and Nate Archer, who each chipped in one.

Caledon excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Golden Hawks' offense rang up 34 shots on Penetang's net.

Caledon was led by Patrick Savella, who registered one goal and one assist. Savella scored on the power play 16:41 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A head contact penalty on Michael Paul had put the Golden Hawks on the power play. Victor Piszczek provided the assist. Rocky Furfari also scored for Caledon. More assists for Caledon came via Watsonbag, who had one.

Adam Redgate recorded 32 saves for the Kings. Penetang incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Chris Vellucci made 39 saves for Caledon on 41 shots. The Golden Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
