Midland falls to Caledon in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Caledon Golden Hawks pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Midland Flyers on a clutch goal by Daniel Cafagna.

Midland could not complete its climb out of a three-goal hole. Caledon made the score 4-1 on a goal by Steven Klomp at 16:30 in the second period. The Flyers got to within 4-3 on a short handed goal by Cam Russell at 5:21 in the third period.

Cafagna was all over the ice for the Golden Hawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Cafagna scored the first of his two goals at 16 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Caledon. Klomp assisted on the tally. Cafagna's next tally made the score 5-4 Caledon with 17:06 left in overtime. Caledon had gotten the advantage when Midland's Kaden Shearer was sent off for interference. Cody Forgione picked up the assist.

The Golden Hawks' offense rang up 52 shots on the Flyers' net. Team could not crack Midland's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Caledon additionally got points from Klomp, who also had one goal and two assists. Rocky Furfari also scored for Caledon. Other players who recorded assists for Caledon were Christian Bonaldi, who had two and Steve Zeppieri and Randy Chen, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers forced Caledon goalie Chris Vellucci to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Midland was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on 10 chances. The Flyers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Midland was helped by Sean Crowe, who grabbed two goals. Crowe scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:10 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Caledon. The Flyers had taken the advantage when the Golden Hawks' Patrick Savella got sent off for roughing. Russell assisted on the tally. Crowe's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 12:43 left in the third period. Midland also got points from Russell, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Midland also got a goal from Steven Pickard as well. More assists for Midland came via Kaleb Rossel, who had one.

Vellucci recorded 43 saves for Caledon. The Golden Hawks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. For Caledon, Zeppieri was ejected from the game. Marco Colangelo made 47 saves for Midland on 52 shots.
