Stayner blows out Erin, 4-1

The Stayner Siskins had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Erin Shamrocks.

Stayner's Jay Payton was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Payton will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.5.

The Siskins pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 48 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:26 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

Erin was unable to stop Stayner from sending pucks towards the net, and the Siskins eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

Stayner was helped by Corey DeRose, who tallied one goal and one assist. DeRose scored on the power play 6:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Stayner. The Siskins had gained a power play chance when Tyler Topham was whistled for tripping. Jason Seeley provided the assist. Stayner additionally got points from Sean Healy, who also registered one goal and one assist. Quinton Bruce also scored for Stayner. More assists for Stayner came via Brett Gauthier, Zachery Hannon, and Kyle Lafreniere, who contributed one a piece.

The Shamrocks forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and four majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Erin surpassed its season average of 32.0 penalty minutes per game. The Shamrocks forced Stayner goalie Payton to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Erin was led by Adam Gibson, who scored the team's only goal. Gibson scored on the power play 13:09 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stayner. The Shamrocks had gotten the advantage when the Siskins' Bruce was sent off for interference.

Stayner registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Gauthier, DeRose, and Jackson Clarke were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Mark Terry rejected 47 shots on goal for Erin. The Shamrocks registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Erin, Mike Fournier, Patrick Reay, and Wes Montgomery were ejected from the contest.
