Caledon rips Huntsville, 8-2

The Huntsville Otters had trouble finding ways to stop the Caledon Golden Hawks, which beat Otters, 8-2.

Daniel Cafagna was all over the ice for Caledon, as he tallied two goals and three assists in the win. Cafagna scored the first of his two goals at 3:56 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Caledon. Steven Klomp picked up the assist. Cafagna's next tally made the score 5-1 Caledon with 7:11 left in the second period. Justin Lollini provided the assist.

The Golden Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Caledon gave up zero goals despite allowing 11 power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:56 into the second period. Twelve fighting penalties were dished out along with 10 game misconducts.

The Golden Hawks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and four majors for 68 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 30.0 minutes per game Caledon had been spending in the box. The Golden Hawks stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Caledon forced the Otters goalie Connor Christianson to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Golden Hawks bested their season scoring average. This season, Caledon averages 4.1 goals per contest. The Golden Hawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Caledon also got points from Kyle Lee, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Cody Forgione, who also had one goal and one assist, and Klomp, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Caledon also got a goal from Christian Bonaldi as well. In addition, Caledon received assists from Victor Piszczek, who had two, Randy Chen, who had three, and Mark Smythe and Nicholas McNutt, who contributed one a piece.

Huntsville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and five majors for 53 minutes in penalty time. The Otters surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game.

Huntsville was led by Brendan Fitter, who registered one goal. Fitter scored 1:07 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Caledon. Shawn Fraser picked up the assist. Matt Janke also scored for Huntsville. More assists for Huntsville came via Myles Bissonette, Corey Secord APM, and Jay Dix, who each chipped in one.

Chris Vellucci made 20 saves for Caledon on 22 shots. The Golden Hawks registered four goals on eight power play opportunities. For Caledon, Lee, Lollini, Forgione, and Klomp were ejected from the contest. Christianson recorded 37 saves for the Otters. Team's Fraser, Evan Wilding, Ryan Perry, Travis Armour, and Fitter were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
