Alliston holds on for 5-4 win against ErinNew Tecumseth Rec Centre Sun, Nov 10, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Erin Shamrocks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Alliston Hornets held on for a 5-4 victory. Alliston took a 5-2 lead during the second period, only to have Erin storm back on a Tyler Topham goal 19:25 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Hornets kept the Shamrocks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tom Denstedt made 34 saves on 39 shots. Alliston's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Hornets average 1.8 goal allowed per game. Alliston was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages. The Hornets found themselves short handed often, totaling 32 penalty minutes and allowing 11 power plays. Alliston was helped by Matt Hamilton, who tallied one goal and one assist. Hamilton scored on the power play 2:38 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Alliston. The Hornets had taken the advantage when Erin's Patrick Reay got sent off for slashing. Nic Archibald picked up the assist. Alliston additionally got points from Mark ODonnell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Archibald, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jamie Bennett also scored for Alliston. More assists for Alliston came via Ben Skuce, who had two and Ryan Marks, Jacob Tuck, Sean Anderson, and Bobby Sloan, who contributed one a piece. The Shamrocks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 34 penalty minutes. Erin was helped by Darcy Hackett, who finished with one goal. Hackett scored on the power play 11:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. The Shamrocks had gained a power play chance when Alex Daley was whistled for slashing. Connor Mortimer assisted on the tally. Erin also got points from Mortimer, who also registered one goal and one assist and Topham, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Erin also got a goal from Chris Grenier as well. In addition, Erin received assists from Cameron DeFazio, who had one and Adam Gibson, who had two.
