Caledon vanquishes Orillia in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Caledon Golden Hawks defeated the Orillia Terriers in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Caledon almost relinquished a three-score lead. The Golden Hawks made the score 5-2 on a power play goal by Daniel Cafagna at 12:29 in the second period. Orillia got to within 5-4 on a goal by Jake Shaw at 9:17 in the third period.

Cafagna was all over the ice for Caledon, as he grabbed two goals in the win.

The Golden Hawks' offense rang up 40 shots on the Terriers' net. Caledon had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances. The Golden Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

Caledon also got points from Jacob Arsenault, who also had one goal and one assist and Derek Czech, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Justin Lollini also scored for Caledon. More assists for Caledon came via James Watsonbag, who had two and Kyle Lee, Christian Bonaldi, and Randy Chen, who contributed one a piece.

Orillia forced Caledon goalie Chris Vellucci to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Terriers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game.

Orillia additionally got points from Marty Lawlor, who also registered one goal and one assist. Orillia also got a goal from Tyler Mason as well. In addition, Orillia received assists from Ryan Tucci, Jason Binnie, Wyatt Young, Nathan Beers, Jason Stone, and Josh Allan, who each chipped in one.

Vellucci rejected 29 shots on goal for the Golden Hawks. Gordie Weiss recorded 35 saves for Orillia. The Terriers registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
