Stayner vanquishes Penetang in shootout, 6-5 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Stayner Siskins defeated the Penetang Kings in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Stayner saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Siskins made the score 5-2 on a goal by Zach Hannon at 5:51 in the third period. Penetang evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Mackenzie Bumstead at 19:17 in the third period.

Stayner struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Kings to score two power play goals on three chances.

The Siskins were helped by Sean Healy, who racked up one goal. Healy scored on the power play 18:14 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Stayner had gotten the advantage when Penetang's Jesse Moreau was sent off for tripping. Stayner additionally got points from Mac Flewelling, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ricky Darrell also scored for Stayner. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Brett Gauthier, who had three and Trevor Franklin, Jackson Clarke, and Dakota Hynes, who each chipped in one.

The Kings were helped by Jordan Schwartz, who finished with three goals. Penetang also got points from Jack Scanlan, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Penetang came via Matt Fischer, who had four and Hayden Cole, Graham Haley APM, and Matt Meher, who contributed one a piece.

Aaron Taylor recorded 19 saves for the Siskins. Stayner incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Penetang's Adam Redgate stopped 19 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Kings incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Penetang ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sammy Gagnon was ejected from the game.
