Caledon vanquishes Schomberg in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Caledon Golden Hawks defeated the Schomberg Cougars in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Schomberg's shootout goal was scored by Cailean Thornton-Wilson. In addition to the clincher, Caledon got a shootout goal from Derek Czech.

The Golden Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Caledon gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:39 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

The the Golden Hawks penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. Caledon had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The Golden Hawks were helped by Czech, who racked up one goal. Czech scored 11:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledon. James Watsonbag picked up the assist. Caledon also got a goal from Kyle Lee as well. Other players who recorded assists for Caledon were Zack Worth, Nicholas McNutt, and Daniel Cafagna, who contributed one a piece.

The Cougars forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. Schomberg surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cougars could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Schomberg averages 4.4 goals per game. The Cougars forced Caledon goalie Eric Pitcher to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Schomberg was helped by Mitch Safaric, who grabbed one goal. Safaric scored on the power play 13:14 into the third period to make the score 2-2. The Cougars had taken the advantage when the Golden Hawks' Lee got sent off for cross checking. Brandon Yorke assisted on the tally. Thornton-Wilson also scored for Schomberg. More assists for Schomberg came via Chris Wilson and Ryley Egerton, who each chipped in one.

Pitcher recorded 45 saves for Caledon. The Golden Hawks registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Caledon, Patrick Savella and James Pitsadiotas were ejected from the contest. Taylor Ewart made 17 saves for Schomberg on 19 shots. Team's Spenser Jones and Brandon Falsarella were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
