Dunnville wins tough contest against Chippawa, 4-2Dunnville Memorial Arena Fri, Jan 17, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Chippawa Riverhawks. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Trevor Smith at 5:55 of the third period. Smith was all over the ice for Dunnville, as he racked up two goals in the win. The Jr. Mudcats pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 24 penalty minutes. Dunnville forced Chippawa goalie Colin Dunne to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Others who scored for Dunnville included Cole Scarlett and Hayden Molen, who each put in one. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Bret Golding, Austin Golding, Evan Capobianco, Mack Steele, Luke Rowe, and Dan Arrowsmith, who each chipped in one. The Riverhawks' offense rang up 35 shots on the Jr. Mudcats' net. Chippawa was helped by Wade Kenny, who registered one goal. Kenny scored on the power play 3:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chippawa. A checking from behind penalty on Tyler Springer had put the Riverhawks on the power play. Jake Reeves also scored for Chippawa. Other players who recorded assists for Chippawa were Curtis Sauve and Michael Rogers, who contributed one a piece. Jesse Schoeman rejected 33 shots on goal for Dunnville. The Jr. Mudcats registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Dunnville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Springer was ejected from the game. Dunne recorded 27 saves for Chippawa. The Riverhawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Chippawa, Adam Quait was ejected from the game.
