Grimsby shrugs off penalties, upends Chippawa, 5-2Gale Centre Thu, Jan 16, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Chippawa Riverhawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Grimsby Peach Kings shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2. Grimsby was led by Curtis Jacques, who grabbed one goal. Jacques scored 2:05 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Grimsby. Mathew Paonessa provided the assist. The Peach Kings stifled Chippawa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Grimsby kept the Riverhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Colin Dunne made 43 saves on 48 shots. Grimsby also got points from Jeromy Hopkins, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Andrew McMurtrie, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Paonessa, who also had one goal and one assist. Colin Wierts also scored for Grimsby. More assists for Grimsby came via Trevor McEneny, who had three and Nicholas Briggs and Jordan McCarl, who each chipped in one. Chippawa was helped by Dylan Lazarus, who finished with one goal. Lazarus scored 6:24 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Robertson picked up the assist. Chippawa also got a goal from Adam Quait as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chippawa were Drew trendle, who had one. Josh Asterino recorded 24 saves for the Peach Kings. Grimsby incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Riverhawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
