Chippawa uses early goal to top Glanbrook, 2-1

The Chippawa Riverhawks took the lead against the Glanbrook Rangers in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory.

Dylan Lazarus provided Chippawa with the game-winning tally when he scored 10:25 into the the first period. The Riverhawks had gotten the advantage when Glanbrook's Derek Goodwin was sent off for interference. Kyle Robertson assisted on the tally.

Chippawa was led by goalie Colin Dunne, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. Dunne certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.41 entering the contest.

The Rangers' power play was ineffective against the Riverhawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Chippawa excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances.

Others who scored for Chippawa included Wade Kenny and Jonathan England, who each put in one. In addition, Chippawa received assists from Curtis Sauve and Michael Rogers, who each chipped in one.

Glanbrook's offense operated below it season average. The Rangers average 3.3 goals per game. The Riverhawks were unable to stop Glanbrook from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rangers eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Glanbrook was led by Brandon Elliot, who scored the team's only goal. Elliot scored 4:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Glanbrook. Malcom Toman picked up the assist.

Chippawa incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Matthew Venturelli made 20 saves for the Rangers on 22 shots. Glanbrook incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Rangers, Cole Anderson was ejected from the game.
