Port Dover vanquishes Chippawa in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Dover Sailors defeated the Chippawa Riverhawks in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams.

Port Dover came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Sailors trailed 2-1 after a goal by Chippawa's Wade Kenny at 31 seconds in the third period. Port Dover knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mitchell Moriarity at 46 seconds in the third period.

The Sailors stifled the Riverhawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Chippawa was unable to stop Port Dover from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sailors eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Port Dover could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Sailors were helped by Josh Herter, who grabbed one goal. Herter scored 14:02 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Anthony Perrodou provided the assist. More assists for Port Dover came via Michael Almas, Clayton Ethier, and Ryan Oatway, who contributed one a piece.

The Riverhawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances.

Joseph Costello also scored for Chippawa. In addition, Chippawa received assists from Curtis Sauve, Adam Quait, Jonathan England, and Josh Gordon, who each chipped in one.

Bob Wilson rejected 22 shots on goal for Port Dover. The Sailors ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ricky Johnston was ejected from the game. Chippawa's Colin Dunne stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Riverhawks incurred 48 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors. For Chippawa, Drew trendle was ejected from the game.
