Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Grimsby Peach Kings defeated the Chippawa Riverhawks in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.Grimsby came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Peach Kings trailed 1-0 after a short handed goal by Chippawa's Curtis Sauve at 9:52 in the first period. Grimsby knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Brennan Smith at 17:53 in the first period. The Peach Kings were led by goalie Mitch Mathieu, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Mathieu managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.91 prior to the game. Grimsby's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Chippawa power plays. The Peach Kings kept the Riverhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Colin Dunne made 49 saves on 51 shots. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Nicholas Briggs and Mathew Paonessa, who contributed one a piece. Chippawa excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Riverhawks were held below their usual level of production. Chippawa averages 3.8 goals per game. Other players who recorded assists for Chippawa were Michael Rogers, who had one. Grimsby incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Riverhawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
