Chippawa blows out Port Dover, 6-2

The Chippawa Riverhawks were firing on all cylinders against the Port Dover Sailors, and when the final buzzer sounded Riverhawks emerged with a 6-2 win.

Chippawa got the win on the strength of a great game by Wade Kenny, who had two goals and one assist. Kenny scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Chippawa. The Riverhawks had taken the advantage when Port Dover's Ricky Johnston got sent off for roughing. Kenny's next tally on the power play made the score 4-1 Chippawa with 8:38 left in the second period. A butt-ending penalty on Nathan McKinnon had put Chippawa on the power play. Adam Quait provided the assist.

The Riverhawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Chippawa averages 3.9 goals per contest. The Riverhawks capitalized on the Sailors' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Chippawa additionally got points from Michael Rogers, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Chippawa also had goals scored by Kyle Robertson and Dylan Leifso, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Chippawa were Dylan Lazarus, who had one and Alex Cipriano, who had two.

Port Dover was helped by Matt Vansickle, who tallied one goal. Vansickle scored short handed 7:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Chippawa. Mitchell Moriarity assisted on the tally. Port Dover also got a goal from Ryan Oatway as well.

Colin Dunne made 26 saves for Chippawa on 28 shots. The Riverhawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. McKinnon recorded 20 saves for the Sailors. Port Dover incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
