Dunnville's comeback falls short, Hagersville wins 6-4

The Hagersville Hawks came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Hagersville led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hawks' Daniel Medeiros's scored on the power play at 18:57 in the second period to put Hagersville up 5-2.

The Hawks got the win with help from a great game by Derek Medeiros, who had one goal and three assists. Medeiros scored on the power play 3:01 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. Hagersville had taken the advantage when Dunnville's Hayden Molen got sent off for roughing. Derek Friesen provided the assist.

The Jr. Mudcats' power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at three seconds into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Hagersville penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and two majors for 58 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. Dunnville was unable to stop Hagersville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Hagersville additionally got points from Brad Hornby, who also had one goal and two assists, Mitch Green, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Cole Martin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Hagersville also got a goal from Aleck Boyd as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Kyle Phibbs, who had one.

The Jr. Mudcats racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Dunnville had been spending in the box. The Jr. Mudcats forced Hawks' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 37 shots and forcing 33 saves. Matt Murphy made 28 stops and Aaron Heaslip APM made five.

Dunnville was helped by Landon Minor, who grabbed one goal. Minor scored short handed 12:27 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Hagersville. The Jr. Mudcats were on a disadvantage when Matt Potter went off the ice for slashing. Dan Arrowsmith picked up the assist. Others who scored for Dunnville included Mack Steele, Jordan Bolibrook, and Jeff May, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Ryan Hannigan and Tyler Springer, who contributed one a piece.

Hagersville registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Clayton Millard and Austin Dezeeuw were ejected from the contest. Josh Rosettani rejected 27 shots on goal for Dunnville. Team's Cole Scarlett and Steele were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
