Grimsby shrugs off penalties, upends Dundas, 3-0Peach King Arena Fri, Dec 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Grimsby Peach Kings, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Dundas Blues' power play opportunities and emerged with a 3-0 victory. Grimsby was paced by Mathew Paonessa, who had one goal. Paonessa scored on the power play 4:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Grimsby. The Peach Kings had gotten the advantage when Dundas' Cosimo Amore was sent off for cross checking. Brennan Smith assisted on the tally. Grimsby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Blues to score on any of their seven power plays. The Peach Kings' defensive play was more effective than usual against Dundas. Grimsby averages 2.1 goals allowed per game. Grimsby also had goals scored by Colin Wierts and Jordan McCarl, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Damien Alfieri, Aidan McCreadie, Cooper Naugoris, Joshua Kozielski, and William Demers, who each chipped in one. The Blues were held below their usual level of production. Dundas puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Mitch Mathieu made 19 saves for the Peach Kings on 19 shots. Grimsby totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. For the Peach Kings, Wierts was ejected from the game. The Blues' Brock Novak stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Dundas incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
