Simcoe completes comeback, beats Chippawa, 7-5Talbot Gardens Sun, Dec 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Simcoe Storm climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Chippawa Riverhawks, 7-5. Simcoe never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Storm fell behind 5-2 after a goal by Chippawa's Kyle Robertson at 17:13 in the second period. Simcoe knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Braedan Walker at 12:12 in the third period. The Storm netted the game winner at 14:03 in the third period on a goal by Walker.
Wade Metz had a great game for Simcoe, netting two goals. Metz's tallies came at 13:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Chippawa and 5:20 into the third to make the score 5-3 Chippawa. The Storm forced Riverhawks' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 62 shots and forcing 55 saves. Ryan Humphreys made 51 stops and Colin Dunne made four. Simcoe's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Storm average 3.4 goals per contest. Simcoe also got points from Jamie Kelly, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ray Munroe, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Walker, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Braden Roberts, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Austin Richardson also scored for Simcoe. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Alex Gamble, who had two and Dan Stewart and Conner Robinson, who contributed one a piece. The Riverhawks made Simcoe's goalies to work in net, taking 37 shots and forcing 32 saves. Tim Porter made 30 stops and Avery Allen made two. Chippawa managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Riverhawks ended up below its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Chippawa was helped by Josh Gordon, who had one goal. Gordon scored 14:37 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Chippawa. Michael Rogers assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Chippawa included Curtis Sauve, Cory Vaillancourt, and Drew trendle, who scored one goal each. The Storm incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Riverhawks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
