The Grimsby Peach Kings tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Simcoe Storm would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2. Simcoe made the score 3-1 on a goal by Conner Robinson at 3:43 in the second period, and Grimsby got as close as 3-2 when Colin Wierts scored 2:46 into the third period. Wade Metz was all over the ice for the Storm, as he tallied two goals in the win. Metz scored at 5:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Simcoe and again while 7:44 into the first to make the score 2-0 Simcoe. More assists for Simcoe came via Joel Potruff, who had one, Braedan Walker, who had two, and Jamie Kelly, who had three. The Peach Kings kept Simcoe's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tim Porter made 50 saves on 52 shots. Grimsby was helped by Andrew Kolodzey, who had one goal. Kolodzey scored on the power play 18:23 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Simcoe. The Peach Kings had gotten the advantage when the Storm's Austin Richardson was sent off for holding. Aidan McCreadie picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Jeromy Hopkins and Mathew Paonessa, who contributed one a piece. Simcoe incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Storm, Justin Tatrie was ejected from the game. Mitch Mathieu made 14 saves for Grimsby on 17 shots. The Peach Kings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. |
