Chippawa squeaks by Hagersville, 3-2

The Chippawa Riverhawks and the Hagersville Hawks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Chippawa made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Michael Rogers's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Riverhawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 70 penalty minutes.

Chippawa was led by Rogers, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Rogers scored on the power play 2:35 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Chippawa. The Riverhawks earned a power play opportunity when Chris Martin was put in the box for cross checking. Luca Petriello assisted on the tally.

Chippawa stifled Hagersville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Joseph Costello also scored for Chippawa. In addition, Chippawa received assists from Dawson Ethier and Josh Gordon, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Hagersville puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. The Hawks kept the Riverhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Colin Dunne made 46 saves on 48 shots. Hagersville's power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having 15 power play opportunities.

The Hawks were helped by Derek Medeiros, who racked up one goal. Medeiros scored 19:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Hagersville also got a goal from Eric Drehmer as well.

Chippawa registered one goal on zero power play opportunities. For the Riverhawks, Shawn Epp and Jake Reeves were ejected from the contest. Hagersville's Matt Murphy stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
