Port Dover falls to Dunnville in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Dunnville Memorial Arena Fri, Nov 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Tyler Springer gave the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Port Dover Sailors when he scored 1:01 into the extra period. Dunnville overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Jr. Mudcats trailed 4-2 after a goal by Port Dover's Matt Vansickle at 3:49 in the third period. Dunnville tied things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Hayden Molen at 7:30 in the third period. Springer was all over the ice for the Jr. Mudcats, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Springer scored the first of his two goals at 2:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Hannigan provided the assist. Springer's next tally made the score 5-4 Dunnville with 18:59 left in overtime. Cole Scarlett picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:54 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Dunnville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sailors to score on any of their four power plays. The Jr. Mudcats forced Port Dover goalie Nathan McKinnon to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Dunnville also got a goal from Davis Hart as well. More assists for Dunnville came via Landon Minor, who had two and Evan Huckalo, Andrew McMurtrie, and Steven Czepek, who each chipped in one. The Sailors were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Port Dover surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. Mitchell Moriarity also scored for Port Dover. Other players who recorded assists for Port Dover were Colin Streutker, Clayton Ethier, and Anthony Perrodou, who contributed one a piece and Steven Comegna and Steve Parker, who each chipped in two. Jesse Schoeman recorded 23 saves for Dunnville. The Jr. Mudcats totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. Dunnville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and McMurtrie was ejected from the game. McKinnon rejected 33 shots on goal for the Sailors. Team's Michael Almas, Moriarity, and Justin Brandon were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
