Grimsby vanquishes Chippawa in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Grimsby Peach Kings defeated the Chippawa Riverhawks in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout.

Grimsby came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Peach Kings was down 2-0 after a goal by Chippawa's Curtis Sauve at 5:00 in the third period. Grimsby knotted things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Colin Wierts at 19:50 in the third period.

The Peach Kings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Chippawa power plays. Grimsby's offense rang up 49 shots on the Riverhawks' net.

The Peach Kings were helped by Andrew Kolodzey, who had one goal. Kolodzey scored on the power play 14:56 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Chippawa. Grimsby had taken the advantage when Chippawa's Matthew Baldinelli got sent off for tripping. Trevor McEneny provided the assist. More assists for Grimsby came via Aidan McCreadie, Cooper Naugoris, and Curtis Jacques, who contributed one a piece.

The Riverhawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 34 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Chippawa also got a goal from Jake Reeves as well. In addition, Chippawa received assists from Wade Kenny, Alex Cipriano, and Michael Rogers, who each chipped in one.

The Peach Kings' Josh Asterino stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Grimsby incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Colin Dunne recorded 46 saves for Chippawa.
