Chippawa outlasts Dunnville, 5-3

The Chippawa Riverhawks and the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Chippawa made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

The Riverhawks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Dylan Lazarus 17:33 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Chippawa forced Dunnville goalie Mitch Topliffe to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Riverhawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 38 penalty minutes.

Chippawa additionally got points from Michael Rogers, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Chippawa also got a goal from Shawn Epp as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chippawa were Ryan Johnson, Dawson Ethier, Wade Kenny, and Thomas Cole, who each chipped in one and Matthew Baldinelli and Joseph Costello, who contributed two a piece.

The Jr. Mudcats' offense rang up 47 shots on Chippawa's net. Dunnville had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 12 chances.

The Jr. Mudcats were helped by Steven Czepek, who racked up two goals. Czepek scored the first of his two goals at 12:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dunnville. Jeff May assisted on the tally. Czepek's next tally made the score 2-1 Dunnville with 18:45 left in the second period. Davis Hart provided the assist. Dunnville also got points from May, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Evan Huckalo, who had one and Landon Minor, who had three.

Colin Dunne rejected 44 shots on goal for the Riverhawks. Chippawa registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Topliffe recorded 28 saves for Dunnville. The Jr. Mudcats incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
