Topliffe leads Dunnville to shutout victory over Port Dover

Mitch Topliffe recorded a shutout against the Port Dover Sailors as the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats picked up a 3-0 win.

Jeff May was all over the ice for Dunnville, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. May scored the first of his two goals at 1:24 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Dunnville. Dan Arrowsmith assisted on the tally. May's next tally made the score 3-0 Dunnville with 2:35 left in the second period. Cole Scarlett picked up the assist.

The Jr. Mudcats pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 47 penalty minutes.

Dunnville stifled Port Dover's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Mudcats' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Sailors. Dunnville gives up 2.7 goals on average per game.

Dunnville also got a goal from Chad Springer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Landon Minor, who had two.

Port Dover was often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and two majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game the Sailors had been spending in the box. Port Dover put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Mudcats to score on any of their 13 power plays. The Sailors' offense operated below they season average. Port Dover puts an average of 2.3 pucks into the net per game.

Topliffe rejected 28 shots on goal for Dunnville. For the Jr. Mudcats, Alexander Carlson, Tyler Springer, and Hayden Molen were ejected from the contest. The Sailors' Nathan McKinnon stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Port Dover registered zero goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Reilly Wilson and Kent Wardell were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
