Grimsby rolls over Port Dover, 6-1

The Grimsby Peach Kings were firing on all cylinders against the Port Dover Sailors, and when the final buzzer sounded Peach Kings emerged with a 6-1 win.

Grimsby's Mitch Mathieu was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. Mathieu managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.72 prior to the game.

The Peach Kings pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 24 penalty minutes.

Grimsby forced Port Dover goalie Bob Wilson to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Peach Kings surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Grimsby averages 3.6 goals per game.

The Peach Kings were led by Joshua Kozielski, who finished with one goal and one assist. Kozielski scored 15:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Grimsby. Cooper Naugoris provided the assist. Grimsby also had goals scored by Jarrod Peacock, who had two and Nicholas Briggs, Andrew Kolodzey, and Jordan McCarl, who scored one goal each. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Trevor McEneny, Jeromy Hopkins, Jeremy Spiece, Colin Wierts, Nicholas Purves, and Brennan Smith, who contributed one a piece.

The Sailors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Grimsby to score on any of its five power plays. Port Dover's offense rang up 33 shots on the Peach Kings' net.

The Sailors were led by Alex Takacs, who scored the team's only goal. Takacs scored on the power play 12:07 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Grimsby. Port Dover had gotten the advantage when Grimsby's Aiden Board was sent off for slashing. Camden Freeman picked up the assist.

The Sailors' Wilson stopped 26 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Port Dover incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Sailors, Dalton Alford was ejected from the game.
