Hagersville holds on for 5-4 win against Grimsby

The Grimsby Peach Kings tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Hagersville Hawks held on for a 5-4 victory.

Hagersville made the score 5-3 on a goal by Derek Medeiros at 9:12 in the third period, and Grimsby got as close as 5-4 when Colin Wierts scored 15:13 into the third period.

Medeiros had two goals and one assist to lead the Hawks. Medeiros scored the first of his two goals at 12:15 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. Daniel Medeiros provided the assist. Medeiros' next tally made the score Hagersville with 10:48 left in the third period. Medeiros picked up the assist.

Hagersville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Grimsby power plays. The Hawks' offense rang up 34 shots on the Peach Kings' net.

Hagersville additionally got points from Brad Hornby, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Medeiros, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Hagersville also got a goal from Derek Friesen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Aleck Boyd, who had two and Nick Sherwood and Jacob Brown, who contributed one a piece.

Grimsby stifled Hagersville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks were unable to stop the Peach Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Grimsby eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. The Peach Kings' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Grimsby gives up 2.4 goals per game.

Grimsby also got points from Aiden Board, who also had one goal and one assist. Mathew Paonessa also scored for Grimsby. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Aidan McCreadie, Jeromy Hopkins, Cooper Naugoris, and Nicholas Briggs, who each chipped in one.

Tim Porter made 32 saves for Hagersville on 36 shots. The Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mitch Mathieu recorded 29 saves for the Peach Kings. Grimsby incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
