GAME RECAP

Dunne stymies Port Dover, Chippawa wins 5-1

Gale Centre    Thu, Oct 10, 2013

The Chippawa Riverhawks relied on the sparkling performance of Colin Dunne in net to grab a 5-1 win against the Port Dover Sailors.

Port Dover's power play was ineffective against Chippawa's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Riverhawks were paced by Shawn Epp, who racked up one goal. Epp scored 10:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Chippawa. Josh Gordon provided the assist.

Chippawa stifled the Sailors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Port Dover was unable to stop the Riverhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Chippawa eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. The Riverhawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 25 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for Chippawa included Curtis Sauve, who had two and Dylan Lazarus and Wade Kenny, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chippawa received assists from Matthew Baldinelli, Dawson Ethier, Jonathan England, and Alex Cipriano, who contributed one a piece.

The Sailors kept Chippawa's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dunne made 45 saves on 46 shots.

Port Dover was led by Taz Myers, who scored the team's only goal. Myers scored 13:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Dover.

The Riverhawks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Bob Wilson made 41 saves for the Sailors on 46 shots. Port Dover incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
