Dunnville beats Port Dover 9-0 as Molen gets hat trick

Hayden Molen lifted the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats to a 9-0 victory with a hat trick against the Port Dover Sailors.

Molen got on the scoresheet 5:08 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:46 into the second and at 3:45 into the third.

Dunnville forced Sailors' netminders to work without much rest, ripping 39 shots and forcing 30 saves. Bob Wilson made 21 stops and Nathan McKinnon made nine. The Jr. Mudcats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Port Dover power plays. Dunnville's defensive play was more effective than usual against Port Dover. The Jr. Mudcats average 2.9 goals allowed per game. Dunnville's goal total was higher than its season average. The Jr. Mudcats have scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Dunnville additionally got points from Austin Golding, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Andrew McMurtrie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Dunnville included Jeff May, who had two and Matt Potter and Luke Stevens, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Landon Minor, who had two, Mark Topp, Davis Hart, Luke Rowe, and Tyler Springer, who each chipped in one, and Steven Czepek and Josh Phibbs AP, who contributed three a piece.

The Sailors were held below their usual level of production. Port Dover averages 2.7 goals per game. The Sailors' penalty kill unit could not stop Dunnville's power play, which converted on three of four opportunities.

The Jr. Mudcats' Jesse Schoeman stopped 18 shots out of the 18 that he faced. Dunnville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Jr. Mudcats, Potter was ejected from the game. Port Dover incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
