Lucan outlasts Exeter, 5-3

The Lucan Irish gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Exeter Hawks.

Lucan gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mitch Smith 12:07 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Irish were led by Dylan Ross, who racked up one goal and one assist. Ross scored 13:09 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Lucan. Andrew Purdom picked up the assist.

The Irish excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Lucan forced Exeter goalie Dylan Hoover to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Lucan additionally got points from Nathan Marcil, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Smith, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Zach Beaumont, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Lucan also got a goal from Kody Tremblay as well. In addition, Lucan received assists from Nik Petrie, Mike Worby, and Andrew Reichert, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Irish to score on any of their three power plays.

Exeter was led by Trevor Thornton, who finished with two goals and one assist. Thornton scored the first of his two goals at 2:32 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Cam Jude assisted on the tally. Thornton's next tally made the score 2-2 with 43 seconds left in the second period. Jude provided the assist. Carter Austin (FAPM) also scored for Exeter. Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Jesse McIntyre, who had one.

Andrew Gantner recorded 23 saves for Lucan. The Irish incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Hawks' Hoover stopped 34 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Exeter incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
