Dorchester blows out Port Stanley, 7-1

Port Stanley    Sat, Jan 11, 2014

The Port Stanley Sailors had trouble finding ways to stop the Dorchester Dolphins, which beat Sailors, 7-1.

Port Stanley was stymied by Dorchester netminder Craig Wood, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. The solid play of Wood will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.17.

The Dolphins pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 44 penalty minutes.

Dorchester made the Sailors' netminders to work in net, racking up 53 shots and forcing 46 saves. Ricky Corkum made seven stops and Aiden Brown made 39. The Dolphins' penalty kill managed to stymie Port Stanley's power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down.

Dorchester was helped by Dylan Salter, who racked up one goal. Salter scored 11:59 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dorchester. Brendon O Shaughnessy assisted on the tally. Dorchester also got points from Shayne Rhyno, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Gus Ford, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Dorchester also had goals scored by Colin Hartwick, who had two and Tommy Prokes and Tyler Kerr, who each put in one. More assists for Dorchester came via Matt Ross, Jordan Fuller, and Brady Veroughstraete, who each chipped in one.

The Sailors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Port Stanley did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Sailors put an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game.

Tanner Turley also scored for Port Stanley. In addition, Port Stanley received assists from Findley Brandon and Josh DenOtter, who contributed one a piece.

Port Stanley incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Sailors, Tyson Corkum was ejected from the game.
