Payne leads Aylmer over Mt.Brydges, 10-3East Elgin CC Rink Sat, Dec 28, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Brad Payne had one goal and three assists to lead the Aylmer Spitfires to a 10-3 victory over the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs. Payne beat Andrew Harrimand-Duke with a shot 10:49 into the second period on the power play to make the score 6-0 Aylmer. A slashing penalty on Trevor Smith had put Aylmer on the power play. Cody Underhill picked up the assist. Payne dished an assist on Cameron Mancini's goal that made the score 2-0 Aylmer at 10:37 into the first period. He then added assists on Mancini's goal at 14:10 into the second and on Mancini's goal at 14:28 into the second.The Spitfires forced Bulldogs' goaltenders to work without much rest, ripping 48 shots and forcing 38 saves. Harrimand-Duke made 12 stops and Matt Lockwood made 26. Aylmer surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Spitfires average 3.8 goals per contest. Aylmer took advantage of Mt.Brydges' penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities. Aylmer additionally got points from Mitch Roloson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Luke Bettencourt, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Ryan Stapleton, who also had one goal and one assist, Jesiah Sweetland, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Clint Walker, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Aylmer also got a goal from Eric Nemeth as well. In addition, Aylmer received assists from Will Goodhue, who had two, Brett Dzyngel, who had three, and Josh Houston and Mark Macpherson, who each chipped in one. The Spitfires were unable to stop the Bulldogs from sending pucks towards the net, and Mt.Brydges eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Bulldogs were led by Mike Broder, who racked up two goals and one assist. Broder scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:31 into the second period to make the score 8-1 Aylmer. Mt.Brydges had gotten the advantage when Aylmer's Payne was sent off for roughing after whistle. Grant Duffield assisted on the tally. Broder's next tally on the power play made the score 10-3 Aylmer with 2:25 left in the third period. The Bulldogs had gained a power play chance when Roloson was whistled for tripping. Curtis Taylor picked up the assist. Mt.Brydges also got points from Grant Johns, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mt.Brydges were Matt Rinker, who had one. Lucas Easterbrook recorded 29 saves for the Spitfires. Aylmer ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Spitfires, Houston was ejected from the game. Mt.Brydges totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Bulldogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mike Frizzell was ejected from the game.
