Cobban's big game bests North Middlesex in 7-3 Lucan winNorth Middlesex Arena Sun, Dec 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Lucan Irish had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the North Middlesex Stars. Lucan got the win with help from a great game by Keiron Cobban, who had two goals and one assist. Cobban scored the first of his two goals at 14:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lucan. Spenser Talbot assisted on the tally. Cobban's next tally made the score 5-3 Lucan with 42 seconds left in the second period. Mike Worby picked up the assist. The Irish made Stars' goalies to work in net, finishing with 40 shots and forcing 33 saves. Dane Gubbels made 14 stops and Alex Foster made 19. Lucan surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Irish have scored at the pace of 4.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Lucan was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Mitch Smith also scored for Lucan. In addition, Lucan received assists from Nik Petrie, who had two and Nathan Marcil, Jamie Brozowski, and Zach Beaumont, who each chipped in one. North Middlesex was led by Taylor Moir, who registered one goal and one assist. Moir scored 17:09 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Lucan. Greg Masschelein assisted on the tally. Others who scored for North Middlesex included Greg Apps and Spencer Kading, who scored one goal each. More assists for North Middlesex came via Mike Sharpe, Dylan Carroll, and Nic Kowaluk, who contributed one a piece. Tyler Beattie recorded 26 saves for the Irish. Lucan incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Stars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
