Port Stanley erases deficit to stun Lucan, 8-7

The Port Stanley Sailors climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Lucan Irish, 8-7.

Port Stanley let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Sailors took a 7-6 advantage on a goal by Zachary Zinga at 11:04 in the third period. Port Stanley found itself down 5-3 after Lucan's Jake Morin put the puck home at 11:23 in the second period. After knotting things up at 7-7 on a power play goal by Andrew Purdom at 12:37 in the third, the Sailors got the game-winner from Zinga at 12:54 in the third period.

Port Stanley forced the Irish goalie Joe Frustaglia to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. The Sailors found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Port Stanley has scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The Sailors were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 36 penalty minutes.

Port Stanley also got points from Tyler Beaulieu, who also had three goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Andrew Yurek also scored for Port Stanley. In addition, Port Stanley received assists from Alex Weaver, who had two, Tyson Corkum, who had four, Keaton McIntyre and Connor Tamborro, who each chipped in one, and Luke McGuire and Dylan Bedard, who contributed three a piece.

Lucan kept Port Stanley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Garner made 47 saves on 54 shots. The Irish bested their season scoring average. Lucan averages 4.6 goals per game.

The Irish were led by Zach Beaumont, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Beaumont scored the first of his two goals short handed at 5:13 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Lucan. Lucan played down a man on Andrew Reichert's tripping. Kody Tremblay picked up the assist. Beaumont's next tally short handed made the score 6-5 Lucan with 16:41 left in the third period. Purdom assisted on the tally. Lucan additionally got points from Nik Petrie, who also registered one goal and two assists and Purdom, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Lucan also got a goal from Dylan Moss as well. More assists for Lucan came via Mitch Smith and Daniel Cloutier, who each chipped in one.

The Sailors registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Frustaglia recorded 38 saves for the Irish. Lucan incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
