Griffin leads Lambeth over Port Stanley, 6-2

Nick Griffin was all over the ice for the Lambeth Lancers, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Lambeth's 6-2 win over the Port Stanley Sailors.

Griffin beat Brandon Garner with a shot 14:50 into the second period on the power play to make the score 3-1 Lambeth. The Lancers had gotten the advantage when Port Stanley's Mark Brisson was sent off for holding. Mike Golinowski assisted on the tally. Griffin dished an assist on Tanner Smith's goal that made the score 1-0 Lambeth at 6:26 into the first period. He added another helper on Nick North's goal that made the score 4-1 Lambeth at 15:17 into the second period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:37 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Lambeth racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game the Lancers had been spending in the box. Lambeth forced the Sailors goalie Garner to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Lambeth also got points from Smith, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Golinowski, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Lambeth also had goals scored by Ryan Pennington and Justin Clark, who each put in one. More assists for Lambeth came via Keith Arnold, who had two and Austin Blais, Warren Hargraves, and Riley Gilmore, who each chipped in one.

Port Stanley forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Sailors surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Port Stanley was held below its usual level of production. The Sailors put an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. Port Stanley kept the Lancers' goalie busy throughout the game, and JP Trudell made 37 saves on 39 shots. The Sailors had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 12 chances.

Port Stanley was led by Zachary Zinga, who registered one goal. Zinga scored on the power play 10:39 into the first period to make the score 1-1. An interference penalty on Gilmore had put the Sailors on the power play. Tyler Beaulieu picked up the assist. Andrew Yurek also scored for Port Stanley. In addition, Port Stanley received assists from Luke McGuire, who had one.

Lambeth registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. The Lancers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordan Spavor was ejected from the game. Garner recorded 36 saves for Port Stanley. For the Sailors, Will Kilgour and McGuire were ejected from the contest.
