Lucan penalty kill dominates in 5-1 defeat of Aylmer

The Lucan Irish, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Aylmer Spitfires' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-1 victory.

Lucan was paced by Daniel Cloutier, who grabbed one goal. Cloutier scored 4:16 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Lucan. Zach Beaumont picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:18 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Irish were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and three majors for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Lucan had been spending in the box. The Irish put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Aylmer to score on any of its eight power plays.

Lucan also got points from Dylan Murray, who also had one goal and one assist, Beaumont, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Colin Hartwick, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lucan also got a goal from Andrew Purdom as well. More assists for Lucan came via Nik Petrie, Nathan Marcil, and Jordan Vanderwel, who each chipped in one.

The the Spitfires penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and three majors for 41 minutes in penalty time. Aylmer surpassed its season average of 33.0 penalty minutes per game. The Spitfires could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Aylmer averages 3.2 goals per game.

Joe Frustaglia made 21 saves for Lucan on 22 shots. The Irish registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Jake Morin, Ryan Martin, and Spenser Talbot were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Lucas Easterbrook recorded 17 saves for the Spitfires. For Aylmer, Luke Bettencourt, Mark Macpherson, Ryan Stapleton, and Matthew Reese were ejected from the contest.
