Aylmer stifles Mt.Brydges' comeback, gains 5-4 victoryTritownship Sun, Jan 05, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Aylmer Spitfires came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory. Aylmer led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Spitfires' Luke Bettencourt's scored on the power play at 6:41 in the second period to put Aylmer up 3-0. The Spitfires pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes. Aylmer was led by Cody Underhill, who registered one goal. Underhill scored 13:09 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Aylmer. Trevor Stewart picked up the assist. The Spitfires forced Mt.Brydges goalie Patrick Maziarz to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Aylmer was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 12 man advantages. Aylmer additionally got points from Bettencourt, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Ryan Stapleton, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Eric Nemeth also scored for Aylmer. Other players who recorded assists for Aylmer were Mark Macpherson, who had two and Aiden Estabrooks, Kyle Dedecker, Andrew Baxter, and Jesiah Sweetland, who each chipped in one. The Bulldogs kept the Spitfires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dan Black made 36 saves on 40 shots. Mt.Brydges could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. The Bulldogs were helped by Grant Duffield, who tallied one goal. Duffield scored 17:55 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Trevor Smith assisted on the tally. Mt.Brydges also got points from Robert McTaggart, who also had one goal and one assist and Sean Candler, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mt.Brydges also got a goal from Mike Broder as well. In addition, Mt.Brydges received assists from Billy Morris, Tyler Lockwood, Mike Frizzell, and Connor Lovie, who contributed one a piece. Patrick Maziarz made 27 saves for Mt.Brydges on 32 shots. The Bulldogs registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
