Exeter rolls over North Middlesex, 7-2South Huron Rec Centre Sun, Nov 24, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The North Middlesex Stars had trouble finding ways to stop the Exeter Hawks, which beat Stars, 7-2. Joe Dykstra was all over the ice for Exeter, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Dykstra found the back of the net 18:12 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Exeter and again while 12:52 into the second to make the score 4-1 Exeter. The Hawks made North Middlesex's goalies to work in net, totaling 40 shots and forcing 33 saves. Dane Gubbels made 14 stops and Alex Foster made 19. Exeter outdid its season average for goals scored. The Hawks average 2.9 goals per game. Exeter capitalized on the Stars' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. The Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Exeter finished with 30 penalty minutes. Exeter also had goals scored by Robert Campbell, who had two and cody mcintyre, Jacob MacDougall, and Jesse McIntyre, who scored one goal each. More assists for Exeter came via Trevor Thornton, who had three, Kalvin Thornton, Cam Dykstra, and Nick Laporte, who each chipped in one, and Matt Clarke and Braedon Van Hooydoak, who contributed two a piece. The Hawks were unable to stop North Middlesex from sending pucks towards the net, and the Stars eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. North Middlesex was led by Spencer Kading, who finished with two goals. Kading scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:44 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Exeter. A tripping penalty on Tyler McNaughton had put the Stars on the power play. Mike Sharpe provided the assist. Kading's next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 Exeter with 10:12 left in the third period. North Middlesex had gained a power play chance when MacDougall was whistled for tripping. Nolan Vlasman picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for North Middlesex were Nic Kowaluk, who had one. Joe Metzger recorded 33 saves for Exeter. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chiristopher Pfaff was ejected from the game. The Stars incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
