Lambeth stifles Port Stanley's comeback, gains 5-4 victory

The Port Stanley Sailors almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Lambeth Lancers managed to pull out a 5-4 win in the end.

Lambeth led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Lancers' Tanner Smith's scored on the power play at 10:06 in the second period to put Lambeth up 4-1.

The Lancers' penalty kill excelled, as Lambeth gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

The Lancers were led by Ryan Pennington, who had one goal. Pennington scored on the power play 10:02 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Lambeth. Lambeth earned a power play opportunity when Tyson Corkum was put in the box for checking from behind. Kale Corbeth picked up the assist.

Port Stanley was unable to stop the Lancers from sending pucks towards the net, and Lambeth eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Lancers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Lambeth additionally got points from Smith, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Warren Hargraves, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Lambeth also had goals scored by Cody Wuytenburg and Justin Clark, who scored one goal each. More assists for Lambeth came via Keith Arnold and Nick Griffin, who each chipped in one.

The Sailors kept Lambeth's goalie busy throughout the game, and JP Trudell made 51 saves on 55 shots.

Port Stanley was led by Andrew Fenn, who registered two goals. Fenn scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:59 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Lambeth. The Sailors had gotten the advantage when the Lancers' Randy Hicks was sent off for roughing after whistle. Andrew Yurek assisted on the tally. Fenn's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Lambeth with 6:48 left in the second period. Will Kilgour picked up the assist. Others who scored for Port Stanley included Alex Weaver and Taylor Schram, who each put in one. In addition, Port Stanley received assists from Michael Woolley and Luke McGuire, who contributed one a piece.

Lambeth registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Lancers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Alkins was ejected from the game. Port Stanley's Ricky Corkum stopped 37 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Sailors ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Port Stanley, Corkum was ejected from the game.
